Tim Rodriguez will be doing back flips in Normal, Illinois this season after being involved in a three-way trade. The Chico Outlaws, who acquired his rights from the Victoria Seals, first dealt him to the Winnipeg Goldeyes of the American Association. The Goldeyes then turned around and traded Rodriguez to the Normal CornBelters for a player to be named later. The CornBelters play in the independent Frontier League.
Rodriguez hit .230 with 6 homers and 23 RBIs in his 39 games with Victoria last season after being acquired from the Yuma Scorpions. He was a disappointment with the Seals after posting a .349 average with 6 homers and 51 RBIs with the Scorpions. Despite his second-half drop in production, Rodriguez still finished in a tie for third in the Golden Baseball League with 74 RBIs. In addition to his back flips, Rodriguez is perhaps best known as being the first player in North America to be struck out by female knuckleballer Eri Yoshida.
